The anchors are small and powerful

2023-09-13

After the car stops, you must pull the handbrake; After the ship is moored, it also needs to drop the anchor.

Ship's anchor is mainly composed of anchor shaft, anchor claw, anchor rod and anchor shackle, etc. After the ship arrives at the berthing area, the crew will anchor, and the ship's anchor will sink into the sea under the traction of the anchor chain.

When the ship is hit by the wind and waves, the anchor chain lying flat on the sea floor will exert force on the ship's anchor, causing the anchor claw to move downward, biting deeper and deeper, so as to achieve the purpose of fixing the ship.

Anchor is a "good helper" for ship maneuvering, which can help the ship turn around with the tide and wind direction, and can also help large ships to dock and leave the port like a drawer.

When leaving the mooring, the ship starts the anchor machine to tighten the anchor chain, and moves towards the direction of the anchor, when the Angle of the ship and the anchor chain is close to vertical, the anchor will be pulled up and gradually recovered.

Usually, the anchor will be withdrawn at the bow, because the bow is "thin" and the stern is "fat", and when the hull is anchored at the bow, the external forces such as wind and water impact are minimal. In addition, positioning the anchor in the bow prevents it from becoming entangled with the propeller in the stern.

It is worth mentioning that the number of anchors has a lot to do with the size of the ship. Usually, small ships only need 1 anchor, placed on the front of the ship; For medium ships, two are required, placed on the port and starboard sides of the bow; Large ships require three, one of them as an emergency backup; Only special purpose vessels - salvage vessels will be equipped with five anchors to make the ship more stable during the mission.
