CASE 01 · PERFORMANCE DEVELOPMENT

Improving Damping Hinge Performance Through Casting Precision

After clarifying the customer's requirements, we refined the precision of the investment casting process through multiple iterations and tested the revised hinge.

Customer Requirement

The customer needed a damping hinge that would retain the required control of the lid across its working angle range after repeated use. Remaining intact was not enough: damping performance also had to be evaluated.

Engineering Improvement

We refined the silica sol investment casting process to improve the dimensional accuracy of the hinge components, resulting in better damping performance.

Customer Review Outcome

The customer reviewed the post-improvement results shown here and was satisfied with the revised hinge's performance for the project.

Why did damping loss appear near the closed position first?

In this test setup, the lid is near horizontal when closed. Its weight therefore produces the greatest closing moment near the closed position. As damping performance declines, insufficient control becomes apparent in this angle range first.

At the recorded checkpoints of 100 and 200 opening-and-closing operations, all five angle ranges were marked OK. The first unstable entry appeared at 250 in the 0–30° range. Later entries show the affected range extending as testing continued. At 2,000, the record shows NG in the first four angle ranges and damping largely lost in the 70–90° range. No visible cracks were recorded at the listed checkpoints.

CASE 02 · PRODUCTION REPEATABILITY

Controlling Steering Wheel Runout After Final Welding

Correcting the rim after seam welding is only an intermediate step. Welding the spokes and hub into the finished wheel can introduce further movement, so runout is checked again after final assembly welding.

Final-Weld Inspection

The completed wheel is checked with a dial indicator through a full rotation and corrected as needed before packing. These checks are part of the production sequence, not just sample approval.

Up to 2.5 mm upward and 2.5 mm downward in the agreed inspection setup.
Production is controlled to a tighter internal target before packing. The inspection setup and acceptance limit are agreed for each project.

Ship the approved sample for your hands-on review. Once confirmed, we finalize tooling, process parameters, fixtures, and inspection criteria for series production.

Control Production

Execute production orders against the locked-in baseline. Approved drawings, inspection records, and quality checkpoints carry forward to keep every batch consistent.
